Occupational Summary

Supervise and participate in the development of software systems and hardware to form a basis for the solution of mathematical, scientific and information processing problems through the use of electronic data processing machines.

Work Performed

Analyze, design, supervise and coordinate the development of software systems and hardware to form a basis for the solution of information processing problems through the use of electronic data processing machines.

Design and develop programming systems making specific determinations about system performance; define functional specifications of the system for the appropriate hardware.

Analyze total system specifications and translate system requirements to task specifications for computer programmers.

Develop training programs to promote staff development within departments affected by utilization or revision of computer systems.

Maintain liaison with representatives of other University data processing operations, professional organizations and equipment manufacturers to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.

Participate in development of long range planning for new projects and facilities; serve in an advisory capacity to University officials on application of data processing procedures and methods.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires Bachelor's degree.

Experience

Work requires four years of progressive experience in operating system generation and maintenance, and related software support.
