Occupational Summary

Plan, develop and implement marketing strategies for assigned areas to promote departmental/unit products and/or services.

Work Performed

Plan, develop and implement strategic design of marketing initiatives in assigned areas such as, but not limited to, direct sales, promotional events, publications, publicity, marketing research, recruitment, and advertising campaigns; research relevant issues, solicit input from appropriate sources, conduct strategic analyses, and propose and implement solutions and initiatives which will achieve identified objectives and goals.

Plan and coordinate the preparation of various publications such as catalogs, seasonal and special brochures, flyers and posters; develop and maintain mailing lists for the distribution of various materials; develop policies and procedures for defining and tracking established and potential markets; coordinate the development and administration of data tracking systems.

Develop and maintain professional contacts and affiliations with the local and national news media to promote the dissemination of news and publicity related to assigned areas; develop and write news releases as appropriate.

Maintain liaison with national and international sales representatives, business representatives and other individuals as necessary to accomplish marketing objectives; negotiate terms and agreements as appropriate to cultivate established and potential markets. Plan and develop marketing research strategies to identify appropriate markets and evaluate the effectiveness of various marketing plans; prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and conclusions. Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year experience in marketing, advertising, media, promotions, graphic arts, public relations, sales, or other related background to acquire skills necessary to plan, develop and implement marketing strategies in one or more specialty areas.
