Position plans, coordinates, and implements international initiatives and programs, develops relationships and agreements, and represents Duke to key external partners, with a strong focus on China and the DKU Initiative.
Develop and manage Duke???s relationships with DKU partners and appropriate civil and governmental authorities in China, and represent Duke to these constituencies.
Serve as the central point for coordination of the work of the various units and teams involved in the planning and implementation of the Duke Kunshan University initiative, including the DKU campus construction team, the China Operations team, the DKU communication team, and those working on DKU academic planning and approval, and on fundraising and business development.
Design and implement an effective working structure among: the Vice Provost for China and DKU
Initiatives and associated staff; the DKU senior leadership; and the program officers working on DKU programs at Duke.
Serve on the Executive Preparation Committee for DKU, the DKU academic and operations committees at Duke, and other bodies as appropriate.
Seek to coordinate and leverage other Duke research and training programs in China.
Advise the Provost and Vice President and Vice Provost for Global Strategy and Programs on strategic development and key planning issues, particularly with regard to China and DKU; assist in shaping and further developing Duke???s global strategy; inform the Provost and VP about activities, potential challenges, opportunities, and recommended actions; monitor achievement of goals.
As requested, convene meetings of Deans, faculty members, and other key leaders on campus, as necessary, to develop programs, further international strategies and goals, develop solutions to operational issues, and work collaboratively with faculty members on the articulation and implementation of Duke's strategy.
Provide staffing and support to key faculty and administrative committees, such as the Global Priorities Committee (GPC), and the China Faculty Council.
Represent DKU, OGSP and Duke???s global strategy to multiple constituencies on and off campus, including, as requested, faculty and staff groups, external visitors, the Duke BOT, and at conferences and symposia.
Solve complex and unstructured problems in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders.
Contribute to day-to-day operational supervision of the Office of Global Strategy and Programs, and supervise staff as requested by the Vice Provost and Vice President of OGSP.
Travel domestically and internationally as needed to support the responsibilities of the position
Maintain and develop professional activities appropriate to his/her discipline or area of study.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Work requires a master's degree in a scholarly discipline or a related field. Doctoral degree strongly preferred.
Work Requires 10 years of related experience, including explicit international experience.

Requires a proactive and positive business approach focused on meeting current and future needs based on negotiation, research and careful planning. Requires ability to work independently and thrive in an unstructured environment.
