Occupational Summary

Provide assistance to the President Emeritus of Duke University by directing and participating in a variety of research, writing, editing and related public relations activities and maintaining liaison between the Office of the President Emeritus and various internal and external constituencies.

Work Performed

Direct and participate in a variety of research, writing, editing and related public relations activities in support of the President Emeritus of Duke University; represent the President Emeritus in contacts regarding speaking appearances; identify sources and gather relevant information through various means including printed materials and face to face and telephone interviews; write speeches or other materials as required by the President Emeritus.

Serve as liaison between the President Emeritus and various individuals and groups, both internal and external to the University; respond to problems and/or issues directed to the President Emeritus by initiating appropriate action and/or referral and follow up to ensure resolution as appropriate.

Manage and coordinate appointments, meetings and speaking engagements for the President Emeritus.

Conduct research and prepare materials in support of the President Emeritus teaching responsibilities.

Receive and respond to correspondence for the President Emeritus to include making referrals, answering in the name of the incumbent and drafting memoranda and letters for the President Emeritus signature. Represent the President Emeritus in meetings and other administrative activities as appropriate.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
