Occupational Summary
Direct and monitor all operational and support activities of the Duke University Management Company (DUMAC).
Work Performed
Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure integrity of DUMAC financial data; prepare DUMAC financial statements; develop budgets and monitor performance to budget ensuring cost control; prepare and ensure timely filing of tax returns and other externally required reports; provide reports on operations as requested by President and Board.
Monitor portfolio accounting activities to ensure adequate supervision, staff, policies and procedures; maintain timely and accurate data on all investment transactions; manipulate data to provide meaningful information and report information for maximum usefulness.
Monitor investment administration to ensure appropriate documentation and communication of policies and restrictions, the decision making process and final decisions; monitor and report on compliance with policies, restrictions or decisions; monitor settlement process and custodian activity ensuring timely and accurate consummation of investment transactions.
Monitor general administrative and support activities including, but not limited to, personnel administration, development of documents ranging from contract agreements to graphic presentations, statistical and analytical support for decision making and performance evaluation, provision of adequate clerical support to other units of DUMAC and the development and implementation of internal computer support.
Assist in the evaluation of economic conditions and overall portfolio positions, recommend changes in strategy or asset mix, and determine which investments to make and/or recommend to the DUMAC Board for approval.
Supervise analyst and other staff members as appropriate.
