Occupational Summary

Assist the Director of Medical Center Development in providing Duke University Medical Center departments with professional fund raising assistance to include planning, organizing and executing a comprehensive fund raising solicitation program with individuals, corporations and foundations in the acquisition of capital, annual and deferred gifts on a continuing basis consistent with the approved fund raising goals for the department and the Medical Center Development Office.

Work Performed

Advise and consult with the appropriate departmental chairman/director and his staff in all phases of private fund raising planning and gift acquisition.

Cultivate and solicit gifts from prospective donors identified through the department, Duke Medical Center and Duke University for the assigned department.

Assist the Director of Medical Center Development in scheduling and planning regular staff meetings for the benefit of all staff members concerned with departmental fund raising activities.

Maintain and direct various programs to increase private gift support throughout the multi state region served by the assigned department.

Maintain and develop procedures in coordination with and consistent with established recording procedures of the Office of Gift Records to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgment and follow up on all private gifts to the assigned Medical Center department.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires seven years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to direct, plan and administer a comprehensive fund raising solicitation program for the medical center. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
