Occupational Summary

Work Performed

Manage the activities of the University Insurance Office to protect the University, its faculty and staff from fortuitous loss.

Advise senior administration of potential sources of loss; recommend mechanisms to minimize or eliminate loss.

Establish and maintain retention levels, loss prevention mechanisms and risk transfer devices; process claims and handle claims settlements. Supervise the processing of unemployment insurance claims; prepare unemployment compensation reports for the Employment Security Commission as required.

Maintain interface with safety office and administration to identify, evaluate and control risks in a cost effective manner.

Develop and maintain familiarity with insurance markets, legislative activity and court decisions related to insurance and other risk management issues; recommend changes in policy and/or procedure as appropriate.

Evaluate and update insurance values as required; allocate premiums to appropriate account codes; develop data for the actuarial study of the hospital professional liability self insured trust as necessary.

Attend conferences, seminars and courses to maintain continued awareness of risk management theory and practice.

Plan and conduct meetings with designated employees to keep them informed of current standards and changes in policies and procedures.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds.

Recommend various personnel functions, including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
