Occupational Summary

The Associate Vice President, Facilities will provide leadership to the facilities, grounds, housekeeping, utilities and project planning design and construction operations of the University. Will also provide strategic direction for all major facility projects and direct day to day operations to ensure long term durability of the Universitys facilities.

Work Performed

Design and execute an effective system of internal controls which provide reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial and other management information is reliable, and compliance is maintained with all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Ensure that capital project management processes enable the institution to complete projects on time and within budget.

Effectively protect institutional interests in capital projects and, working collaboratively with colleagues in the finance function, ensure appropriate fiscal controls for capital projects for presentation to the Associate Vice President of Campus Services.

Continue to develop and implement a set of policies and decision-making processes for short and long term space allocation that are fully integrated into the institutional strategic plan.

Evaluate existing facilities and advise University administrators concerning future uses of facilities by providing architectural and interior design services.

Assist in establishing priorities for major maintenance projects and renovations and make recommendations for improvements in Physical Plant programs.

In cooperation with related departments at the university, manage the regulatory, environmental, community, and governmental issues to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations affecting the physical assets of the university and to demonstrate exemplary environmental citizenship.

Direct and participate in studies related to land use and vehicle/pedestrian movement; recommend placement of buildings and layout of walkways, streets and parking lots, develop, review and approve landscape plans in conjunction with the University Architect.

Promote environmentally innovative and financially sound construction and facilities management practices.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree in a related discipline; master's degree preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years relevant experience.
