Occupational Summary

Working within the Student Information and Services and Systems team, this position provides high level leadership support within the SISS team on specified areas, both in daily activities and acting in a chief decision making role in absence of the SISS Director.

Work Performed

The Senior Associate Director has responsibility for a significant cross functional, cross school role.

Serves at team lead on major or institution wide function or system over SISS staff and assigned staff from functional unit or technical (OIT) area.

Works independently with assigned school (or schools) or major functional on student information systems or services.

Recognized as technical/functional expert and leader both internally and externally.

Senior Associate Directors also have an internal administrative area of responsibility over which they serve in a leadership role: user communications, external relations and capital budget and planning.

Participates in projects having a significant cross functional, cross school role.

Acts as team lead for a major or institution wide function or system.

Serves in a typically managerial capacity within the office such as user communications (including a systematic methodology for providing users with regular updates on systems changes, planned system down time), external relations (including oversight of regular meeting with power users, developing training materials and programs), capital budget and planning (ensuring software and hardware equipment maintained to meet changing needs).

Acts in a chief decision making role in the absence of the SISS Director.

Develop and maintain direct professional level relationships with Directors and Deans within the institution, going beyond power user interactions.

Chair school wide initiatives on a regular basis, maintaining full project responsibilities, including planning, budgeting and reporting.

Represent the University at a national level by regularly presenting at national conferences, serving on advisory groups, and has visible activity on inter institutional list serves and other communication threads.

Promote the goals originally put forward by the SISS team of administrative efficiency and effective and timely service for students.

Ensures that the systems are used and the data is structured in such a way to support the highest level federal reporting and strategic planning needs of the University, while at the same time meeting the daily business process and reporting needs of daily operating processes.

Advises central and school offices on how best to use these systems to support their activities.

Includes consulting on issues of effective work processes and personnel structures within these units.

Anticipates testing needs as new programs and processes are developed in these areas.

Provides high level troubleshooting for Systems process and set up issues, and new development.

Ensures that required interfaces with other systems, and internal and external organizations are tested and maintained.

Promotes and directs future systems enhancement and development testing as needed.

Serves as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the software development team through which requirements flow.

Develops requirements specifications according to standard templates, using natural language.

Successfully engages in multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Schedules and holds regular meetings with relevant users group.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelors Degree.

Experience

Seven years of experience in functional software support required.

Skills

This position requires strong administrative skills and experience, the ability to organize and lead other administrators towards determined goals. Must be able to understand and appreciate both the high level goals of the university as well as day to day administrative functions. Also requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group i.e. executives, managers, subject matter experts, students and faculty.
