Occupational Summary

Plan, coordinate and perform a variety of complex reconciliation and analysis activities for the Office of Endowment/Investment Accounting to ensure accurate maintenance of major University cash accounts, investment pools and confidential loans and mortgages.

Work Performed

Plan, coordinate and perform a variety of complex reconciliation and analysis activities for the Office of Endowment/Investment Accounting to maintain major University cash accounts; prepare and update on an ongoing basis the reconciliation of complex endowment and investment accounts of Wachovia Bank to the University's General Ledger. Coordinate and assist in the monthly reconciliation of various Northern Trust Bank accounts to the University's General Ledger to ensure problems are identified and resolved in a timely manner.

Review accounts to identify problems and irregularities, determine effect of errors and recommend solutions; identify and analyze the impact of endowment and investment activities and external trends on University bank accounts and recommend modifications in accounting procedures to avoid overdrafts and to ensure optimal efficiency and interest earnings.

Provide assistance to various departments throughout the University in the area of analyzing and determining appropriate short term investment participation levels and strategies in accordance with University and regulatory policies.

Monitor and prepare reports regarding the status of various confidential mortgages and loans belonging to the University; arrange and verify adherence to loan repayment schedules. Coordinate and verify transactions associated with the payroll direct deposits to ensure that appropriate amounts are credited to employees' bank accounts; interact with bank personnel to monitor and verify account entries; resolve related problems as necessary. Prepare reports and analyses, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions; develop, recommend and implement policies and procedures related to financial reporting, monitoring and analysis. Maintain confidential records and files on sensitive transactions.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of accounting principles generally acquired through a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Economics or a related field.

Experience

Work generally requires two years accounting or related experience to acquire competence in analyzing and reconciling complex financial accounts and related information, applying general accounting principles and preparing financial reports.
