Occupational Summary

Manage the overall licensing process within the Office for Translation & Commercialization (OTC) to provide services for all schools and colleges across campus.

Work Performed

Responsible for coordination of invention disclosure input and evaluation, protection strategies, market analysis and commercialization activities, including all option, licenses, amendments, and other agreements.

Provide guidance and oversight to a team of licensing specialists to ensure effective and broad service to faculty and partners.

Manage one's own portfolio of intellectual property for strategic cases. Draft, negotiate and monitor options, licenses and other agreements.

Create and foster ongoing relationships with faculty, staff, students and potential licensees

Assist in the creation and licensing of technology to startup companies, working closely with New Venture Center colleagues.

Work with other members of the OTC team and other partners to further the goals and objectives of technology commercialization, innovation and entrepreneurship at the University. Represent OTC in a variety of venues internally and externally.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Master's degree preferably in biological/life sciences, engineering/physical sciences, computing sciences/information technology or business administration.

Experience

Work requires ten years of directly related experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Skills

MBA or other advanced degree desired. 10 + years in licensing research- based intellectual property, preferably in a university setting Excellent management skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Proficient with negotiating concepts, university policies, patenting and IP law and procedures and industry licensing needs
