Occupational Summary

Manage the daily operations of Trinity College to include coordinating work of the Trinity Colleges staff, maintaining records of activities of the College and, with the Associate Dean of Arts & Sciences &Trinity College, assigning various duties within the College. Administer Trinity College academic policies; contribute to the development and administration of academic policies and programs; provide specialized academic counseling and advising to students.

Work Performed

Coordinate work of the Assistant and Associate Deans and other Trinity College staff members; schedule and preside at staff meetings; with the Associate Dean for Arts & Sciences & Trinity College, assign various duties within the College.

Collect and maintain records on academic actions for the College including student requests, appeals and problems; organize, interpret and maintain precedent files; prepare summaries of academic actions; maintain minutes and records of staff meetings.

Administer Trinity College academic policies and regulations and interpret them to undergraduate students and faculty; participate in policy making as members of faculty committees; represent the College on various other University Committees as appropriate; establish and administer College procedures.

Advise University officials, including the Dean and Associate Dean, Arts& Sciences & Trinity College; prepare reports and recommendations; develop and implement appropriate plans of action; serve as contact and mediation point for issues and projects for the College; collect and collate special requests from other offices; provide information as requested.

Hear and rule on students appeals and petitions for exceptions to College regulations.

Coordinate special Trinity College activities such as certifying seniors for graduation and other activities connected with graduation.

Provide academic guidance for undergraduate students concerning programs and courses of study and requirements for graduation; identify students academic problems, based on review of their records, and take appropriate actions.

Represent the College and University to students, parents, alumni, other institutions and friends of Duke in both informal and formal settings.

Prepare, edit and contribute to College and University publications to include serving as editor when appropriate.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, transfers, promotions and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Master Degree required, Ph.D. Preferred

Experience

Work requires five year of experience in academic administration or a related setting to become familiar with academic policies, programs and regulations necessary to coordinate related services and activities.
