Occupational Summary

Direct activities to coordinate and promote research and other sponsored programs; provide general administrative support to the Vice Provost for Research and Development.

Work Performed

Develop, clarify or redefine University research policies; advise and assist project directors and University support offices to ensure compliance with policies set forth by the University and external agencies.

Develop, plan and implement activities to support research and projects funded by grants and contracts; coordinate and assist in the identification of external funding sources; create and maintain a resource library and ensure communication of information on funding opportunities to faculty and staff.

Coordinate the preaward review of proposals ensuring conformity with University and funding agency policies and procedures; monitor and coordinate grant implementation with project directors and the Office of Sponsored Programs Establish and maintain contacts with representatives of funding sources; represent the Universitys position.

Develop liaison and coordinate appropriate activities with related functions such as Sponsored Programs, University Development and Technology Transfer.

Coordinate the development of a grants activity data base; compile data; prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Determine fiscal requirements and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.

Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in business, science, or related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience

Seven years of progressively responsible experience in a leadership position in sponsored research administration in a university or medical center setting including expertise in all phases of grant proposal development, including electronic proposal submission and general knowledge of Federal research compliance regulations including OMB Circulars A21, A110, A113, CAS, and FAR. A masters degree in Business Administration, science or a related field may be substituted for experience on a 1:1 basis. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.
