Occupational Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Programs, the Assistant Dean of the MQM and MBCS Programs provides leadership and supervision of activities for the MQM and MBCS programs within the Fuqua School of Business and manages all MQM and MBCS program staff. The Assistant Dean of the MQM and MBCS Programs is responsible for operational and academic affairs, including monitoring and managing the curricular and co- curricular experience, representing the interests of MQM and MBCS students, serving as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration, working with the Senior Associate Dean for Innovation on the development and delivery of the MBCS program, and coordinating with relevant staff and faculty from the Nicholas School for the delivery of the MBCS program.

Work Performed

Supervise, lead, and ensure successful programmatic operations provided by the MQM & MBCS program staff, including:

Co-curricular programming of events designed to foster team-building, cohort identity, long-term friendships, and the development of an inclusive environment in which students with varied backgrounds can thrive.

Oversee accommodations mandated by Duke???s Student Disability and Accessibility Office, including coordination of faculty and affected students for alternative testing arrangements and in-class allowances. Execution of Cornerstone events including program Orientation and Graduation.

Ensure Fuqua Bulletin is updated accurately each year.

Respond to, communicate, and clarify all inquiries related to Fuqua???s policies, practices, and procedures.

Monitor and evaluate program effectiveness, analyze and investigate programmatic trends, prioritize opportunities for improvement.

Recommend and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness and enhance financial or systematic processes. Formulate and refine clearly delineated operational and financial short-range and long-term goals. Build on existing collaborations and partnerships across the campus and beyond, and explore new avenues for providing resources to students.

During the pre-launch phase of the MBCS program (joint with the Nicholas School), work with the Senior Associate Dean for Innovation at Fuqua and relevant Nicholas School staff and faculty on developing and operationalizing all aspects of program delivery for this new degree program. This includes but is not limited to:

development of co-curricular and extra-curricular programming, designing logistical elements of program delivery such as the program calendar and weekly activity schedule, developing policies, norms, and expectations for students, and designing a meaningful and cohesive student experience, all while meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders at Fuqua and the Nicholas School.

Once the program launches in Summer 2026, this allocation transitions to Oversight of Program Operations for MBCS, which will then include the same set of duties as for the MQM program plus coordination with Nicholas School staff and faculty in the delivery of this joint degree program.

Address individual student- and cohort-wide concerns relating to all aspects of the program experience, including overall program structure, course concerns, interpersonal conflict, academic difficulty, resource accessibility, international student acclimation, and individual well- being. Through individualized levels of communication, coordination with MQM, MBCS, and Fuqua staff, resource identification, coordination, and follow-up, address student concerns while ensuring that Fuqua???s policies, culture, and reputation are appropriately represented. Manage acute student crises, include family emergencies, substantive medical issues, and mental health issues through coordination with the student, faculty, teammates, family, Duke resources, and, when necessary, Durham police.

Manage acute, severe issues relating to team dynamics. This can involve coordination, mediation, expectation-setting, and in more severe cases, formal sanctions.

Liaise closely with the Registrar to ensure Duke and accreditation requirements are fulfilled for our students, including:

Manage Strike Rule cases, including pro-actively notifying low- performing students, academically dismissing students meeting Strike Rule thresholds, and presenting appeals to the Curriculum Committee.

Coordinate, advise, and communicate with students regarding Leaves of Absence, including timing requirements, tuition reimbursement, and return logistics.

Help to facilitate timely end-of-term grade submissions, grade change requests, and confirmation of graduation requirements.

Work closely with the Registrar and full time program staff to coordinate classroom scheduling.

Staffing, development, performance evaluation, and retention of MQM and MBCS program staff including but not limited to Assistant Director, Program Coordinator, and Staff Assistant.

Own the yearly budgeting process of all MQM and MBCS programming. Ensure that expenditures are targeted, cost-effective, and at scale.

Participate in financial matters including analysis, planning, budget projection, and strategic formulation as needed. Monitor and verify expenditures.

In alignment with Fuqua???s Community Standard and Honor Code: Address student professionalism concerns and intervene when behaviors fall short of expectations.

Inform the Senior Associate Dean for Programs of any relevant information connected to the investigation of alleged violations of the Honor Code. Impose any sanctions dictated by the Judicial Board.

Investigate potential violations of the Community Standard. When required and in consultation with the Senior Associate Dean for Programs, impose interim restrictions, present cases to the Fuqua Conduct Board, and impose sanctions.

Support faculty in the MQM and MBCS programs, including: Provide information before each term including cohort demographics, class schedules, course material deadlines, ETS & Southport contact information, idiosyncratic programmatic norms, and class leadership contact information.

Coordinate and provide support for idiosyncratic student requests (e.g. alternative testing accommodations, etc.)

Consult with faculty on policy interpretation and clarification relating to idiosyncratic student contexts.

Act as a point of coordination between faculty, the Registrar, Multimedia, BMO, ETS, and DLS.

Provide additional support for new and adjunct faculty members, ensuring they have a single point of contact to help navigate Fuqua resources, norms, expectations, etc.

Serve on various Fuqua and University committees as assigned and needed. In close partnership with ETS, helps ensure that the needs of faculty are being met with respect to the implementation of program-wide technology across the program.

Support programmatic and accreditation reviews as necessary. Support grant opportunities as appropriate to support initiatives. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a graduate degree in higher education or business administration, in student affairs or counseling in order to be able to achieve productive relationships with students and to be able to understand the complex University and business schoolacademic requirements, policies and procedures.

Experience

Minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience in higher education administration and/or counseling is required.
