Occupational Summary

Plan, manage and coordinate buildings, grounds and facilities maintenance, construction, renovation and repair projects involving one or more skilled crafts to ensure efficient completion and compliance with specifications.

Work Performed

Plan, manage and coordinate special maintenance, construction, renovation and/or repair projects for buildings, grounds and facilities to ensure efficiency and compliance with project specifications.

Prepare cost estimates of renovations and special projects; determine quality and quantity of materials, supplies and manpower required; assist in writing specifications for materials and workmanship to be utilized by contractors or in-house tradesmen in all phases of the project.

Assist users or requesting departments in determining project requirements; maintain liaison between all parties concerned with the project to facilitate any changes or modifications and to facilitate resolution of project problems.

Maintain liaison between University personnel and contractors on special projects; assist users in determining priorities for changes during construction or renovation.

Inspect construction and/or renovation projects to ensure that procedures followed and materials used comply with specifications, contracts and/or instructions; specify and approve any modifications of plans with contractors.

Establish work schedules for the different skilled crafts involved in projects to minimize conflicts and/or delays.

Maintain records of construction and inspection activities and approve payment for contractors.

Prepare cost analyses, reports on necessity and progress of projects as well as adverse trends and appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work generally requires an Associate's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Business, skilled crafts or a related field to acquire knowledge of construction/renovation operations and to develop appropriate managerial skills.

Experience

Work requires four years of progressively responsible experience in construction, engineering and/or shop management (skilled trades) to include project design, project scheduling and/or contract administration.

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or Design may offset two years of required experience.
