Occupational Summary

The Director of Aquatics will have oversight of the aquatics facilities (Taishoff Aquatic Center and Brodie Aquatic Center) for both the Department of HPER (Health, Physical Education and Recreation) and the Athletic Department.

Work Performed

Overseeing aquatics facilities.

Teaching physical education activity classes with a concentration on water sport and/or other related department offerings

Coordinating Recreation Aquatic Programs;

Facility preparation for intercollegiate athletics practice and competition, HPER classes, recreation programs, and community/commercial activities;

Scheduling and Customer Service;

Leading, hiring and training the aquatics staff including lifeguard program;

Creating a welcoming environment that promotes safety, quality and excellence;

Committed to advance the mission and learning objectives of the Department of HPER and Duke Athletics.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's Degree required, Masters preferred in area of recreation/facility management.

Experience

A minimum of three years working experience in aquatics management and demonstrated experience in pool operations.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Must possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a large variety of constituents. Red Cross Life Guard, CPR, First Aid and AED certifications along with ability to teach such programs. Must have knowledge of pool operations and the ability to balance the needs of various user groups.
