Occupational Summary

Work Performed

The Director of the DKU Support Unit is responsible for developing and implementing policies and procedures designed to support Dukes operational relationship with Duke Kunshan University in the areas of legal contracting, risk management, financial management, and human resources consistent with established Duke policy frameworks in these areas.

The Director represents Duke in negotiating legal agreements between Duke and DKU (or DKU partners), with advice of Counsel and subject to appropriate Provost and senior officer input and approvals, including with regard to Duke programs interested in offering programming at DKU.

The Director collaborates with others at Duke to assist Duke representatives on the DKU Board or DKU Board committees prepare materials for the meetings of the DKU Board of Trustees.

The Director collaborates with others at Duke to prepare and present materials on DKU to the Duke University Board of Trustees and its committees.

The Director provides logistical support to Duke offices, as requested, for specific programs and initiatives such as research collaborations or international conferences involving Duke and DKU.

The Director reports to the Executive Vice Provost for Finance and Administration, works closely with others in the Office of the Executive Vice Provost, works directly in support of the goals of the DKU Programs Office at Duke, and collaborates effectively with a number of other corporate administrative offices at Duke, including Human Resources, Financial Service, University Counsel and research pre and post award offices.

The Director collaborates with the senior DKU officers, including the Senior Director of Finance and Administration and his staff, to develop and implement coordinated Duke and DKU policies and processes to achieve the mutual goal of effective and efficient administration at both institutions, taking into account the regulatory environments of both the US and the PRC and the policies and procedures duly adopted by the governing bodies of Duke and DKU respectively.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred

Experience

At least seven years of administrative experience with some experience in international or global administration.
