Occupational Summary

Plan and implement an international advancement program that reflects and builds upon changing alumni patterns, emerging fundraising potential, and the university's strategic priorities globally. Manage the international advancement agenda and travel for the university's senior leadership. Reports to the Associate Vice President for University Development.

Work Performed

Work with the Vice President for Alumni Affairs and Development and the Associate Vice President for University Development to develop and implement an international advancement plan that expands Dukes identity as a global university by nurturing international student representation on campus, increasing student and faculty involvement in other countries, and establishing relationships that help cultivate Duke's education, research, and outreach missions around the world.

Serve as the primary administrator for international advancement activities for the universitys senior leadership; work with the president, deans, and other senior administrators to maximize the effectiveness of international travel for development, alumni relations, government relations, and academic purposes; arrange trips and accompany leadership as necessary.

Manage, coordinate, and solicit a portfolio of international prospects, including alumni, parents, and friends of the university; coordinate activities with the departments of the Annual Fund, Major Gifts and Special Initiatives, Corporate and Foundation Relations, Gift Planning, and Principal Gifts within the Office of University Development; coordinate activities with school and unit-based development offices.

Identify and develop opportunities among high net worth individuals and corporations without Duke ties.

Coordinate with the Duke Alumni Association to develop and implement an alumni relations international plan.

Represent the international advancement program to alumni, parents, and friends of the university; present at board and committee meetings as requested.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communication, analytical, and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires five years experience in fund raising, public relations, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to plan, administer and coordinate ongoing relationships. Work also requires experience in an international environment and a demonstrated ability to work cross culturally. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
