Manage and coordinate banking and finance activities relating to the receipt, custody and disbursement of Duke University funds controlled by the Bursar's Office.
Manage and coordinate the cashier and accounting sections of the University Bursar's Office to ensure accurate and timely accountability of money received and deposited, and records maintained.
Coordinate registration schedules, penalty charge policies and other procedures with Registrar's Office, Deans' staff of graduate and professional schools, and appropriate sections of the Bursar's Office to ensure timely billing and collection of payments.
Review lists of uncleared student and degree candidate accounts to ensure adherence to Duke University payment policies; submit lists to the Registrar, the Bursar and graduate and professional school Deans as needed.
Answer correspondence regarding complaints, billing questions, and collection problems as promptly as possible.
Train cashier and accounting section supervisors to identify problems in the Bursar's Accounts Receivable system and to advise the Bursar in solving problems with Academic Systems Data Processing. Review and approve payroll deductions for graduate students to ensure accurate payment of students from appropriate fund sources.
Supervise clerical staff in the billing of outside source aid for students.
Coordinate and review reports from cashier and accounting section supervisors to ensure accuracy and efficiency of operation.
Maintain and update Bursar's Office Practice and Procedure Manual.
Manage various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions and vacation schedules.
Coordinate and conduct conferences with subordinates to ensure compliance with departmental practices, to implement new policies, and to keep superiors informed of changes and new standards.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Work generally requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or a related field.
Work requires three years progressive experience in an accounting or banking environment with at least one year of supervisory experience.
