Occupational Summary

Performs complex and specialized technical duties within a library setting. Requires in depth knowledge and experience in one or more functional areas of library operations and services. Understands the relationship, roles, and impact of unit or department and its workflows to library as a whole. Solves complex problems; Works independently with minimal guidance. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.

Work Performed

Manages staff, specialized functions, or projects, including conducting needs assessments, managing budgets, managing workflow, developing timelines, implementing change, and quality control.

Applies specialized knowledge to meet users needs. Expertise may be gained through previous work experience or academic background. Work involves cross unit/departmental responsibilities, represents the unit or department on projects and committees

Communicates effectively to diverse audiences. Adapts message based on that audience.

Coordinates and/or participates in a variety of duties involved in collecting, interpreting, documenting and summarizing of data.

Coordinates the preparation of reports, analyses and recommendations. Responds to complex and/ unique requests/issues that deviate from standard operating procedures through advanced knowledge, experience, research, and independent judgment.

Develops and conducts training on areas of expertise as needed. Utilizes multiple technologies and has knowledge of how they interact to impact patron service; effectively troubleshoots issues and works with those outside of their department to resolve issues.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Experience

Required: Demonstrates in-depth knowledge and expertise in one or more areas of information resources and services such as acquisitions, circulation, collection maintenance, cataloging, and metadata creation, digitization, preservation, information assistance and consultation, reference and/or instruction. Requires three years of library experience or advanced subject expertise to obtain specialized knowledge of library systems and procedures; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; analytical skills, able to work independently and as a member of a team; high proficiency using computer based technology and ability to adapt to new technologies; demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer services.

Preferred: Prior experience working in an academic research library, prior supervisory experience
