Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of duties involved in the collection, interpretation, analysis and documentation of data on prospective donors in support of development research and/or information gathering activities. Submit reports to University Leadership and Gift Officers across schools and units with strategic recommendations regarding cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors across Duke University.

Work Performed

Proactively collect, interpret, document and summarize descriptive, analytical and evaluative data on prospective and existing donors.

Procure data using various research methods to include electronic database searches, telephone and personal interviews, and on site investigations.

Monitor news sources to track donors, prospects and fundraising opportunities.

Determine prospect capability, and assess prospect and donor interest in various programs across the university.

Foster strategic relationships with front-line fundraisers across the university.

Advise development officers concerning requests for donor information and questions.

Identify new prospects and suggest approach strategies to be used by Development staff and Major Gift Officers in solicitations of gifts to Duke.

Present information in a variety of written formats including reports, summaries and abstracts.

Maintain, update and query prospect relational database.

Provide system generated reports for analysis and interpretation.

Prepare presidential briefings, bios and documentation.

Consult with development officers across the University and Medical Center to develop written strategies.

Coordinate with the Research Coordinator for Principal Gifts on preparation and delivery guidelines.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires the skills and knowledge normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience

Work generally requires one year of experience in development research or a related field. Work experience in research methodology strongly preferred.

OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE.

Skills

Knowledge of Microsoft suite products and internet search capability; Strong analytical skills; Strong interpersonal skills; Knowledge and familiarity with development, research and prospect management practices; Ability to handle multiple priorities with attention to detail and timeliness.
