Occupational Summary

Direct, plan and develop information technology systems and procedures for the department. Serve as a liaison and project manager for services provided by the department to other areas of the University, Medical Center and Health System. Evaluate and assemble the resources necessary to implement new technologies.

Work Performed

Direct the provision of information systems support to assure smooth, professional and cost effective operation of the department.

Develop and recommend information systems policies and procedures.

Coordinate beta testing, upgrades and system enhancement projects.

Participate in the strategic planning, priority setting and formulation of business plans for implementing departmental initiatives across the University, Medical Center and Health System.

Keep management abreast of applicable developments in the information systems field.

Serve as liaison to University departments for information technology services provided by the department including hardware and software system interfaces.

Participate in technical committees and task forces.

Prepare, present and promote capital and operating budgets for the information technology functions of the department.

Manage information technology expenditures to meet approved budgets.

Review, adjust and approve computer software and hardware maintenance contracts.

Consult with other management staff concerning information systems capabilities and technology.

Provide feasibility guidance and cost estimates.

Oversee information technology projects to ensure full cost recovery and on time delivery.

Develop, implement and oversee various programs including, but not limited to, procuring necessary resources, screening ideas, and managing objectives and priorities to optimize effectiveness.

Manage the hiring and employee evaluation process for technical staff in the department.

Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Generally requires a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or related field.

Experience

Work requires four years experience working on information systems process improvement, project management, and experience in a supervisory capacity.
