Occupational Summary

Coordinate and manage a variety of activities involved in operating the Medical Simulator Lab; Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of simulator training to healthcare professionals. Develop and conduct complex simulation exercises and perform analysis and provide technical reports. Liaison for Medical Simulator Lab concerning design, application, operation, maintenance, training, reliability and performance of medical, simulator, computer and audiovisual instrumentation.

Work Performed

Perform analysis, design development, modification, specifications, standards, and equipment testing and evaluation of medical simulator, computer, and audiovisual equipment Procure, install, configure, operate, maintain, and repair medical simulator, computer, and audiovisual equipment for the Medical Simulator Lab.

Schedule and coordinate Medical Simulator Lab activities and training.

Coordinate and assist Medical Simulator Lab Director in the preparation of simulation presentations for Duke Medical Center, government, and national meetings.

Develop and implement a maintenance plan for the simulator to include troubleshooting, standard maintenance and supply acquisition (fake blood, urine, blood products, patient charts, etc.)

Develop and recommend short and long-range goals for the development of the simulation laboratory to include a literature base on simulation and scenario library.

Collaborate with health care professionals and other personnel to develop and coordinate education, laboratory, and research projects.

Review journals, abstracts, and scientific literature in existing and emerging simulation application technologies, including underlying educational principals.

Supervise and train other professional and technical personnel as well as graduate students and medical students in selected technical aspects of simulation.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelors degree in biological/physical science, computer/information technology, nursing, or a related field and at least two years of research, laboratory, or technology experience.

Experience

Work requires two years of research, laboratory, or technology experience to acquire skills necessary to develop and implement simulation based experiences and manage overall operations of the laboratory.
