Occupational Summary

Provide leadership and guidance including the development of overall information technology strategy as well as implementation of a school wide computing system and network infrastructure.

Work Performed

Design, develop and maintain an information technology infrastructure, including the design, development and maintenance of the network infrastructure supporting connectivity for students, faculty and staff to computing resources and applications provided by network, file and application servers; deploy and maintain system infrastructure, including servers and software environments; design and support an overall intranet infrastructure supporting internal and external web based computing requirements; develop an information technology plan for the new facilities as needed.

Develop long range computing plans to include providing adequate and accessible computer facilities, improving networking of units, inclusion of computing technology in the curriculum, and provision for sufficient technical staff.

Maintain interface with departmental users in the selection and set up of major computing applications appropriate for supporting departmental activities; facilitate communication between users to develop information sources for meeting individual departmental computing needs.

Develop and maintain computing standards relative to an overall strategy to provide an appropriate degree of standardization.

Coordinate regularly with information technology staff supporting departmental computer users to ensure that technology, infrastructure and long range planning requirements are met and supported.

Serve on various University committees as appropriate; coordinate computing initiatives with other areas of the University.

Maintain liaison with representatives of other University computer operations to ensure utilization of current principles and techniques.

Recommend various personnel actions including hiring and performance appraisals of information technology staff.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor degree in mathematics, computer science, or a computer-related field, or equivalent course work in technical training.

Experience

Work requires seven years of related experience.
