Occupational Summary
Direct the planning, implementation and administration of all fund raising activities, promotions and external relations for the Duke University Athletic Association.
Work Performed
Direct all fund raising activities, promotions and external relations for the Duke University Athletic Association (DUAA) to include coordinating the efforts of the Iron Dukes, Varsity Club, and Promotions Office.
Develop and implement fund raising strategies to address facility improvements, endowment of scholarships and increased operating budgets for the University's intercollegiate athletic program.
Maintain liaison with the Office of University Development to coordinate fund raising activities to include policies, strategies, prospect clearance and donor recognition.
Develop strategies for major gifts solicitations; identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts prospects for DUAA.
Plan, direct and/or review new or major external relations initiatives ensuring coordination with other departments as appropriate; develop comprehensive annual and long range plans consistent with DUAA objectives and priorities.
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Direct various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires seven years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities, intercollegiate athletics or a related field to acquired skills necessary to direct a comprehensive fund raising program.
