Occupational Summary

Provide administrative management and coordination for the functions reporting to the Vice President for Alumni Affairs and Development; research, analyze and prepare reports and summaries of progress in those functions; plan and conduct meetings and attend fund raising meetings in place of the Vice President as required.

Work Performed

Oversee administration of budget related and personnel related activities in the areas of Alumni Affairs, University Development, Campaign for Arts and Sciences and development activities in the professional schools.

Develop and implement budgets for these functions; review their budget proposals and problems and recommend solutions to the Vice President; review and authorize expenses versus budget.

Research, analyze and prepare reports and summaries of the status of and progress in activities in the functions described.

Keep abreast of the status of activities in these functions; maintain contact with directors of the functions involved, development officers, research department and others to gather information to support the projects and information needs of the Vice President.

Plan and conduct meetings of the Vice Presidents staff and others in his absence or as otherwise directed; handle all inquiries and correspondence for the Vice President in his absence or as otherwise directed.

Travel to attend corporate meetings or other activities to present or justify Duke University fund raising proposals.

Coordinate implementation of decisions made by the Vice President with various University offices and departments; discuss and resolve sensitive issues; inform Vice President of significant problems.

Manage daily operations of the office of the Vice President; supervise one Executive Secretary and make appropriate personnel recommendations.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
