Occupational Summary

Innovations in Healthcare is a US non-profit organization co-founded by Duke University, McKinsey & Company, and the World Economic Forum, and is hosted at Duke. It seeks to improve healthcare and advance health worldwide by sourcing, strengthening, scaling, and studying the best healthcare innovations globally. Innovations in Healthcare is collaborating closely with the Global Health Innovation Center @ Duke (Center). The Center studies and supports the scaling and adaptation of innovations, and related policy reforms, to address critical health challenges worldwide. It helps integrate complementary efforts across Innovations in Healthcare, the Duke Global Health Institute, the Duke- Margolis Center for Health Policy and the Duke Institute for Health Innovation, developing an academic home for faculty, staff, trainees, and students working on health/healthcare innovation and policy issues globally. The Senior Research Manager will develop and lead key research activities of Innovations in Healthcare and will coordinate and manage research activities of the Center. This is a matrixed position where the Senior Research Manager will report to executive management of Innovations in Healthcare and liaise with the executive faculty at the Center in the course of managing research functions across both entities.

Work Performed

Develop and implement knowledge development and research strategies, including determining priority research projects and overseeing the successful execution of these projects.

Create monitoring and evaluation research systems and opportunities for Innovations in Healthcare.

Develop and manage research projects to engage faculty and students.

Manage the research team across Innovations in Healthcare and the Center.

Formulate and organize opportunities for faculty to collaborate on specific research projects.

Supervise and coordinate the efforts of researchers engaged with/by Innovations in Healthcare and the Center.

Lead efforts to identify financial support (primarily grants) and resources, prepare grant proposals to launch research-focused efforts and collaborations.

Identify and support ways of interacting and collaborating with relevant research and knowledge.

Focused partners in other countries and with other types of organizations external to Duke.

Work on, and in some cases, lead, specific knowledge and research initiatives including the preparation of information and data for case studies, planning and execution of evaluation projects, and the drafting and compilation of reports for publication.

Identify mechanisms for disseminating the knowledge and research created by Innovations in Healthcare and the Center, both in terms of media (internal and external) as well as in peer-reviewed journals and other published materials.

Represent Innovations in Healthcare and the Center at domestic and international events and conferences to disseminate research results.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

A master's degree in a global health or related research field is required and training in research methodologies.

Experience

Work requires seven or more years in research and project management, proven competence in managing research staff and research projects, and a track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Work requires experience both in the management and execution of research staff, research processes and knowledge-focused initiatives.

Experience within the field of health/global health/policy is required.

Willingness and ability to travel internationally as needed.
