Occupational Summary

Oversee the collection of umbilical cord blood units and related procedural paperwork and documents for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB). Be involved in promotion of public cord blood banking, education of the donor, data collection, and other necessary operational requirements for the successful collection of umbilical cord blood units for public banking and directed donation. Be point of contact for trouble shooting issues related to cord blood donation and collection. Disseminate best practices and act as liaison with hosting hospital personnel. Identify areas for efficiency gains and collaboratively develop and implement process improvements at the sites.

Work Performed

Oversee the collection of umbilical cord blood units and related procedural paperwork and documents for the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB).

Be an ambassador for the CCBB program. Establish good working relationships with hospital personnel involved in the cord blood collection process. Develop and enhance all aspects of CCBB with the goal of promoting public cord blood banking. Make presentations to hospital staff and community groups to increase awareness of CCBB.

Ensure collections are performed in accordance to SOPs and FDA requirements and that all associated documentation is completed in accordance to SOPs and regulations. Ensure and maintain complete confidentiality with regard to identity of the maternal/infant donor pair, as well as results of any tests and procedures, in accordance with CCBB standard operating procedures.

Ensure that maternal blood samples are collected according to standard operating procedures. If samples are missed or are otherwise unusable, facilitate the collection of new samples.

Be point of contact for trouble shooting issues related to cord blood donation and collection.

Disseminate best practices and act as liaison with hosting hospital personnel. Identify areas for efficiency gains and collaboratively develop and implement process improvements.

Ensure supplies are readily available at the site for site personnel to collect the umbilical cord according to collection procedures.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Completion of an Associate's degree

Experience

Work requires a minimum of two years of relevant research experience. A Bachelor's degree may substitute for 2 years required experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Skills

Outstanding interpersonal skills Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

Excellent organizational skills Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.

Self-directed team player CPR certification required.

Experience supervising employees or demonstrated leadership experience in other work or non-work related areas is desirable but not required.

Phlebotomy certification/experience required Bilingual skills, especially English Spanish, desirable but not required.

Experience on a Labor & Delivery unit is highly desirable, but not required.

Experience in cord blood banking is highly desirable, but not required.

CCBB will train incumbent for position.
