Occupational Summary

Plan and coordinate Annual Fund Telethons and coordinate the solicitation of funds from special constituencies as designated by the Director; serve as liaison to student groups.

Work Performed

Plan and implement undergraduate telethon program for the Annual Giving program; develop telethon goals; coordinate and train volunteers; prepare mailings; staff telethon nightly.

Coordinate with Professional Schools Annual Giving programs; assist Schools in developing goals, preparing pre-telethon mailings, coordinate and train faculty and alumni volunteers.

Advise interested groups in planning and implementing telethons; ensure plans do not interfere with Annual Telethon goals.

Serve as liaison between Annual Giving and various student groups; serve on student fund raising committees including, but not limited to, Senior Class Gift and Student-Alumni Relations Committees.

Coordinate solicitation to additional donor constituencies as designated; set goals, develop schedules, organize solicitations and acknowledge gifts.

Participate in special Annual Giving projects such as assisting with brochures, as designated by the Director.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress and adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires one year of experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer and coordinate annual fund solicitations and other special fund raising activities. A bachelor's degree from Duke University may be substituted for the required year of experience since the familiarity with the University and contacts with current students and recent graduates would be directly relevant to the job.
