Occupational Summary
Identify, develop, and direct educational programs that increase the availability and utilization of cutting edge education and training opportunities of the institute. Support the application of those methodologies within research projects conceived and conducted by Duke Students and faculty. Work collaboratively with a range of offices involved in the creation, implementation, and support of curricular content of interdisciplinary exchange, will also work with a range of units across Duke while engaging industry, government, and other universities.
Work Performed
Work with directors of centers, faculty or other stakeholders to assess education and professional development needs and opportunities for training faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students advanced methodological skills and their application. Prioritize these needs and opportunities and develop and implement strategies for meeting them.
Identify, assess, and promote existing educational programs within Duke Schools and departments. Coordinate development of new interdisciplinary training programs within and across schools and departments. Establish a course designation and participate actively in the preparation of curricula. Identify faculty to teach courses, to include developing faculty positions and managing efforts to recruit and hire faculty, as appropriate. Maintain close contact with faculty around the University to identify their academic interests and teaching commitments and integrate their input into programs.
Monitor and promote student interest in scientific research and ensure that interested students have access to the training and mentoring needed to develop and complete research projects.
As required, direct the development of materials for academic programs and the receipt and processing of educational program applications, and advise on the evaluation of all educational programs. Prepare and present information on educational programs to interested audiences.
Develop program reports and assist the Director in developing proposals and requests for funds. Develop budgetary recommendations for educational programs and work with Director and interested faculty to identify potential sources of support and to secure support for such programs.
Identify educational experiences outside of Duke. Work to ensure that Duke Scholars at all levels are aware of available opportunities, and support those interested in accessing them. Where appropriate, work to develop collaborative offerings with other institutions.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires knowledge of science methods and educational principles, curriculum development, and instructional design, as well as analytical, organizational, and communications skills generally acquired through completion of a masters degree program. Ph.D. preferred.
Experience
Work requires a minimum of five years experience within a university, preferably to include direct experience teaching with undergraduate and/or graduate students, conducting and/or supervising research, and working with faculty to develop and improve curricular requirements within a department or school.
OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Skills
Ability to foster collaboration; Background in research and/or teaching; Knowledge of statistical methods and applications.
