Occupational Summary

The Director, Prospect Advancement Services is responsible for providing strategic direction, vision and leadership in advancement services to all development and alumni-related functions within the Fuqua SchoolofBusiness. The Sr. Director will advise on Fuqua's prospect and engagement strategy and will provide technical resources to facilitate and enhance relationships with alumni and donors and support fundraising initiatives. The Sr. Director manages a team of direct and indirect reports and reports to the Associate Dean, Development and Alumni Relations.

Work Performed

Serve as a member of the Development and Alumni Relations leadership team that advises the Associate Dean on strategic and administrative matters.

Manage the Advancement Services team by clarifying mission, budgets, setting goals, managing work, coaching, guiding, and training. Provide strategic insight into a comprehensive prospect management strategy for Fuqua, including giving, employment, volunteer, and location data, and advising on adding to and deleting names from the prospect list as necessary.

Develop strategies to measure the effectiveness of Fuqua's alumni engagement and fundraising efforts through identifying and reporting on opportunities, trends, successes, effectiveness, and prospects that need attention. Influence internal collaborators to share information regarding their alumni-related activities as an engagement goal for Duke's next campaign.

Provide senior leaders at Fuqua and Duke with data on Fuqua's fundraising efforts, responding to requests as necessary and providing data proactively.

Serve as strategic partner across Duke and Fuqua on data collection and design efforts for alumni surveys and other related activities around the school's reputational advancement.

Serve as Fuqua's expert on Duke's Alumni and Development Database (DADD) and as the primary liaison to Duke University Alumni & Development Systems (ADS).

Set strategy for instructing Fuqua Development & Alumni Relations staff on the use of DADD, including training new staff members.

Work with Fuqua's accounting staff to create non-endowed accounts and provide information on accounts affected by Fuqua's fundraising activities. Support accounting and ADR staff withnew initiatives or transfer of budgeted funds as needed.

Provide support to internal DAR partners for Fuqua's gift acknowledgement process through data review and report creation. Support Fuqua's partnerships with Duke's central annual fund and communication resources by reviewing alumni/donor segmentation data for accuracy and completeness.

Serve as primary point of contact to Fuqua's Marketing area in providing data for external business school rankings organizations.

Provide testing, implementation and quality control of DADD, identifying issues and working with ADS to correct them.

Serve as a front-line point of contact for alumni and donors who need informationon their alumni records or giving history, or who need support in making a gift, solving constituent problems and involving or updating other staff as necessary.

Serve as primary point of contact for Fuqua alumni records and lead efforts to maintain records accuracy, including developing reports to ensure quality control.

Lead efforts to ensure accurate and timely pledge/gift coding and processing of all pledge/gift transmittals, including gift-in-kind paperwork. Partner with Fuqua's campaign office and gift records to ensure that Fuqua gifts are coded and allocated accurately, performing quality control assessments and spot checking as necessary.

Campaign Support and Readiness Partner with Duke's AED Office on engagement for Duke's Comprehensive campaign, then develop and maintain Fuqua's alumni engagement process and data collection for campaign goals and metrics. Train Fuqua staff on how to record alumni engagementand volunteer service.

Review and approve individual and event briefings for the Dean and members of the Development and Alumni Relations staff. Serve as point of contact with Duke's AED Office to ensure compliance with campaign guidelines and matching gift guidelines.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Bachelor's degree required

Experience

A well-developed understanding of institutional fundraising and five to seven years' experience in development, alumni relations, or higher education.
