Occupational Summary

Reports to Executive Director for Development and Alumni Affairs to manage and expand an aggressive annual giving program for the School of Medicine; to maintain and encourage unrestricted annual gifts of all levels and as well as to communicate and encourage unrestricted giving through major and deferred gifts from reunion classes, recent graduates and older alumni; and to work with the Executive Director to set and reach annual giving and participation goals for alumni, young alumni, Half Century Society, parents, friends and patient audiences. Must develop and maintain productive relationships with colleagues and related departments including Planned Giving, Alumni Affairs, Stewardship and Special Events, Communications, Alumni and Gift Records, and the central Duke University Development and Alumni Affairs programs.

Work Performed

Annual Giving Program

Develop and oversee strategy for direct mail appeals and annual solicitations of alumni and friends of the School of Medicine; including appropriate strategies for alumni, house staff, young alumni, parents, Half Century Society, reunion classes and other key constituents.

Develop new donor acquisition programs to increase annual giving donors and dollars to unrestricted funds for the School of Medicine, Physician Assistants, and Doctor of Physical Therapy programs.

Design and implement personal, mail, and phone solicitations and communications to inform, solicit, and recognize donors.

Develop an annual giving calendar to strategically drive maximum results and work with colleagues to ensure that the annual giving calendar coordinates with the comprehensive alumni communications plan and calendar.

Work with frontline fundraisers, annual giving and reunion staff and development communications to develop content and messaging for direct mail appeals.

Develop benchmarking reports and lead efforts to analyze results for thoughtful and strategic changes to the annual giving program.

Review reports to ensure accuracy of standard weekly, monthly, and annual reports as needed for other data pulls.

Work with reunion giving staff to identify and maximize opportunities for class challenges and to develop other strategies to increase dollars and participation.

Assist with the development of an annual report for the Medical Annual Fund and the Medical Scholarship Fund.

As needed, work with colleagues on issues related to vended projects.

Manage and/or coordinate the pledge reminder system for annual giving and reunion pledges.

Collaborate with Planned Giving and Major Gifts to identify and solicit prospects for planned or major gifts.

Oversee data procurement for all annual giving audiences.

Design and modify standardized data request sheets, prospect sheets, and other Annual Giving forms.

Manage and coordinate online giving.

Assist with content development web pages.

Program Administration

Represent School of Medicine with Central Development Annual Giving programs and ensure that our programs leverage and complement Central programs effectively for maximum efficiency and results.

Represent Annual Giving interests on committees addressing information technology.

Represent the Medical Annual Giving programs with Medical School program administration and leadership.

Monitor progress of special projects.

Assist with preparation for special events and volunteer meetings.

Assist with planning, marketing, soliciting, writing, design, and stewardship for all audiences.

Perform related duties as requested.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work generally requires five years of annual giving or a related field providing experience in fund raising strategies and activities.
