Occupational Summary

Will create and manage educational programs at the graduate level that support students and enhance their successful progress to degree completion; will report to and work closely with the Director in developing and implementing academic support activities; will coordinate with faculty from throughout the university who are teaching in GLS or supervising Master's projects; will work independently in creating educational support opportunities that develop academic skills, including teaching a core LS course with the objective of developing academic skills; will assist in aspects of the administration and operations of GLS as they pertain to student services, specifically including academic processes.

Work Performed

Develop, implement and administer academic skill development programs at the graduate level with an emphasis on scholarly writing; design and maintain the GLS Writing Program as current and vital, with the intention of supporting and improving student academic performance; provide office hours for consultation with individual students concerning academic work; work with the director in individual student advising to develop individuals academic programs and to enhance student progress to degree.

Design, participate in, and/or lead seminars whose objective is acquisition of academic skills at the graduate level, including the LS core course, final project pro seminars, and individual seminars concerned with writing.

Work with the director in developing and implementing departmental academic policies and processes including the Masters project, degree completion and academic integrity; with the director serve on exit examination committees and read final projects; with the director monitor Masters projects and all aspects of the GLS academic operations for academic quality.

As required, participate in the admissions process with the director and GLS advisory committee in assessing applicant potential to succeed in a challenging, interdisciplinary Masters program.

Participate in professional groups and scholarly publications concerned with interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching; as necessary remain active in a scholarly field.

Assist the director in creating academic assessment instruments and preparing yearly academic assessment.

Work with the director in supporting international students.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires advanced knowledge of scholarships and research, scholarly writing ability, curriculum development and instructional design as well as analytical, organizational and communications skills generally acquired through completion of a doctoral degree.

Experience

Work requires academic and teaching experience, preferably with experience in course development.
