Occupational Summary

Determine requirements for instructional audiovisual media and coordinate production of slide series, films, videotapes and other media materials for use by medical faculty in teaching activities.

Work Performed

Coordinate the development, implementation and maintenance of an instructional media design program; develop survey instruments and conduct needs assessment of medical students. Design, plan and manage production of audiovisual projects and materials in video, slide, audio, computer and print formats to meet instructional objectives of courses and lectures; evaluate the effectiveness of audiovisual materials to ensure that objectives are being accomplished.

Confer with medical faculty regarding evaluation of current materials and the design and development of new materials. Develop budgets for project productions; develop and manage production schedules.

Evaluate journal articles concerning medical education and new developments in educational technology and disseminate to faculty as appropriate.

Plan and conduct seminars for faculty regarding the effective use of media in medical instruction and available media design capabilities. Supervise and coordinate freelance work during production of materials.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of instructional audiovisual media programs and materials normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in Education Media, Instructional Design, Marketing, Public Relations or a related field.

Experience

Work generally requires two years experience in curriculum development, instructional design, medical education, television, instructional technology or a related area to acquire the ability to develop media design programs and plan and manage production and audiovisual projects. A master's degree in Educational Media, Instructional Design or a related field may be substituted for experience.
