Occupational Summary

Perform a variety of duties in the planning, execution, completion and inspection of special maintenance, replacement and upgrade of designated renovation projects involving Duke University Medical Center buildings and plant facilities.

Work Performed

Develop initial programmatic plans for use by architectural, engineering and project management staff based on long range analysis of functional and space utilization programs within the Duke University Medical Center; prepare special analyses and reports related to long range planning as appropriate.

Inspect and evaluate architectural structure and physical comfort of Medical Center buildings and plant facilities; make recommendations concerning future utilization of buildings and facilities in accordance with cost estimates and Federal, State and local building codes.

Coordinate engineering and related planning for special maintenance, replacements, upgrade and renovation projects for Medical Center buildings and plant facilities including determination of cost estimates and requisition of specialized equipment; monitor the execution, completion and inspection of the project.

Maintain liaison between members of the Medical Center community, contractors, the Medical Center Design Office and the Department of Engineering and Operations to obtain and relay information concerning cost and status of Medical Center renovation projects.

Resolve special construction problems and assist Medical Center users in determining priorities for changes during construction or renovation.

Maintain files of all drawings, prints, tracings, blueprints, specifications and approvals for renovation projects.

Assist in the establishment of Medical Center standards for material and construction specifications to provide guidelines for future project planning, design and construction.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field of study.

Experience

Work requires a minimum of five years experience in design, planning, evaluation and architectural programming related to institutional and/or health care buildings and systems.
