Occupational Summary

Supervise and coordinate activities of the Division of Audiovisual Education personnel engaged in the production of instructional medical and scientific television for teaching, research, patient care and scientific applications, ensuring efficient and quality service.

Work Performed

Supervise, coordinate and participate in all phases of the production of instructional television, including scientific recordings, training tapes, medical/surgical procedure tapes and audio/video tapes in support of the teaching, research and patient care mission of the Medical Center. Plan and schedule work for instructional television employees, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Originate and develop innovative techniques to ensure efficiency and quality of services.

Evaluate and recommend purchase of new products and equipment; maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; reorder as required. Ensure maintenance and proper functioning of assigned equipment.

Assist in the development of budget for instructional television section. Provide technical guidance and instruction to faculty and staff in instructional television capabilities, techniques and procedures.

Plan and conduct meetings with television staff to ensure compliance with established practices, implement new policies and keep employees informed of current standards and changes.

Supervise various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules; train new employees.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of all phases of television production usually acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures, Mass Communication, Educational Media Communication or related field.

Experience

Work requires the ability to write, edit and produce instructional video projects and technical knowledge of related equipment generally acquired through three years of experience in broadcasting, instructional television, photography, or a related field.
