Occupational Summary

Direct, coordinate and administer the Masters of Arts in Liberal Studies Program providing an interdisciplinary program of the Graduate School for adult students.

Work Performed

Develop and implement policy for the MALS program; develop long-range plans for the program and its curriculum.

Recruit faculty to teach core courses; advise faculty on the development of new and imaginative courses; evaluate courses and faculty.

Administer the applications and admissions process; interview applicants as appropriate and evaluate applicants against predetermined admissions criteria; direct and review financial aid and registration process.

Advise Masters candidates regarding courses and requirements as appropriate.

Determine fiscal requirements of the program and prepare budgetary recommendations; prepare grant proposals and applications for program funding.

Develop and maintain relations with local or regional businesses and industries as well as other MALS programs nationally to exchange information.

Direct the work of the MALS staff; administer various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hirings, promotions, performance appraisals and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
