Occupational Summary

Assist the Director in coordinating and administering undergraduate student financial aid programs at Duke University with responsibility for a major aspect of the Financial Aid Office operation.

Work Performed

Assist the Director in coordinating and administering the University undergraduate student financial aid programs; coordinate a major aspect or aspects of the office operation such as implementation of Federal and institutional need analysis procedures and management of computer operations. Represent the Office of Undergraduate Financial Aid before a broad spectrum of internal and external individuals and groups to present information, discuss issues and answer questions related to financial aid policies, procedures and regulations; represent the office in all administrative and policy matters in the absence of the Director.

Maintain interface with various University departments and offices to coordinate activities and exchange information; serve in an advisory capacity to University officials. Evaluate, interpret, and/or implement financial aid policies, procedures and regulations; participate in and serve as a resource to other staff members in the awarding of student aid to include evaluating student needs and eligibility, selecting candidates and determining type and amount of financial assistance to be awarded.

Coordinate and/or participate in the preparation of work schedules, special assignments and the gathering of specific information related to office operations. Prepare and/or assist in preparing annual operating reports setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions as well as reports required by various state and federal agencies. Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires analytical and communication skills as well as familiarity with the academic setting generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires five years of experience in administering student financial aid programs at a college, university or private school.
