Occupational Summary
The Assoc VP, Business Development & Philanthropy: DKU & China position will consist of responsibilities across fundraising and business development. Primary fundraising duties include raising resources from individuals and corporations in support of the Universitys and DKUs operating expenses on the DKU campus. The position will utilize University Developments research staff in identifying prospective donors and volunteers, developing strategies to capitalize on their interests and business ties, and soliciting support at the major and leadership gift levels.
Work Performed
With development leadership, help execute the fundraising plan for DKU.
Develop a portfolio of individual and corporate prospects and devise cultivation solicitation strategies.
Work with legal counsel to develop gift agreements and gift acceptance mechanisms.
Work with Duke and DKU leadership to define giving/naming opportunities at the DKU campus.
Serve as project leader for DKU in communicating priorities and prospect activity as part of the international fundraising team.
Obtain commitments for business development activities in 2013 that will be indicative of the potential of substantial use of the DKU conference center in subsequent years by corporations, academic institutions, government agencies, international organizations, and the like.
Conference Services at Duke will provide the necessary delivery support for this activity until this support can be provided in Kunshan.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree program. MBA or other relevant advanced degree highly desirable.
Experience
Work requires extensive experience in university administration, alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, marketing, or a related field sufficient to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in general fund raising activities and business development with diverse organizations and constituencies. Corporate experience is desirable.
