Occupational Summary

The Social Work Resident position is designed for candidates who have finished a Masters of Social Work degree and need supervised experience to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). The position is for one year, with potential renewal for a second year. For more information please reference North Carolina specific licensing requirements.

Work Performed

Responsible for identification of mental health treatment resources outside of CAPS, including intensive outpatient, inpatient, residential care, and partial day hospitalization programs.

Responsible for meeting with CAPS clients to assist them with obtaining appropriate mental health treatment; to include helping students and their families obtain information regarding insurance benefits, both in- network and out-of-network.

Responsible for assisting students to access funding support that will allow for rapid entry into intensive treatment programs.

Responsible for providing brief support and instructional guidance to students to ensure referral success.

Responsible for follow-up contact to assess referral efficacy.

Acts as consultant to faculty and staff to facilitate referrals to CAPS and to treatment resources outside of CAPS.

In collaboration with Clinical Coordinating Team, gathers clinical data related to students referred outside of CAPS.

Responsible for evaluating client satisfaction of referral experience.

Responsible for facilitating the sharing of CAPS clinical assessment data with appropriate treatment providers, to ensure smooth transfer of care.

Responsible for the development and updating of CAPS referral database.

Responsible for provision of brief therapy, to include crisis and after- hours coverage.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Applicants must have a completed Masters of Social Work degree prior to program starting date.

Experience

Qualified candidates should have strong clinical skills in brief treatment, assessment, and crisis intervention. It is preferred that candidates have counseling center experience and experience with case management activities.
