Occupational Summary

Manage and coordinate a variety of functions to include theatre operations, studio production and recording, and electronics systems and equipment design and repair at Duke University.

Work Performed

Manage and coordinate theatre, studio and related technical operations at Duke University; determine fiscal requirements, prepare budgetary recommendations and monitor and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds; develop and implement service fees and billing procedures to recover expenses; provide technical consultation as necessary; supervise managers in carrying out the responsibilities of their operational areas.

As assigned by Director, provide consultation and establish engineering standards for electronic equipment to be installed in University facilities to include designing wiring diagrams and ensuring that network of equipment is compatible; work with the University Architect in establishing technical requirements and equipment specifications for video systems, audio systems and scoreboards to be installed in University facilities. Manage the implementation of electronic equipment such as micro computers and peripheral equipment within Auxiliary Services and in other areas as assigned; set up repair programs in accordance with engineering plan. Plan and schedule work for subordinate supervisors to include assigning projects, determining requirements for operations and ensuring adequate staffing, space and facilities for performance of work. Manage various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, training, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires knowledge of comprehensive technical program design and development and audiovisual equipment normally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program in Technical Theatre or a related field.

Experience

Work generally requires three years progressive experience in technical theatre, institutional audiovisual and media environment or a related area to acquire practical exposure to a variety of technical systems development and management including theater operations, recording studios, microcomputer services and support for special events and other technical needs.
