Occupational Summary

Plan and manage a comprehensive and diversified marketing program to maximize sales; assist Director in developing policies and procedures; supervise marketing staff.

Work Performed

Develop and implement a sales network to increase distribution; secure sales firms or persons to represent the organization in designated, regional markets; direct overall strategies for representatives; provide representatives with necessary information and materials to increase sales.

Develop, plan and implement an overall promotional and advertising program to include writing copy, preparing description of books and journals for various brochures and catalogs and planning advertising campaigns.

Develop, plan and implement special promotional programs to publicize and promote the organizations products; arrange for media coverage as appropriate; schedule exhibits at relevant meetings and conventions; coordinate other special or commemorative events.

Prepare seasonal and special brochures and catalogs for distribution.

Make recommendations to staff regarding potential marketability of individual products; advise Business Manager on proposed prices.

Conduct studies to identify trends to maximize effectiveness of marketing efforts; research targeted markets and evaluate strategies to identify potential customers.

Prepare standard contracts between sales representatives and the organization outlining all appropriate and pertinent information.

Assist the Director in various administrative functions including, but not limited to, recommending policy and procedure, and representing the organization at specified meetings and conventions.

Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Recommend various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, work assignments, performance appraisals, promotions and disciplinary actions; train and develop employees and monitor performance.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work generally requires six years of experience in public relations, marketing, sales and promotions, media, advertising or a related field to acquire skills necessary to manage a comprehensive and diversified marketing program.
