Occupational Summary

Provide fund raising assistance to the Director, Foundation Relations, senior development staff, faculty and students through consultation, research, and development of fund raising proposals; coordinate fund raising projects as assigned.

Work Performed

Consult with Director, Foundation Relations, faculty and development staff on proposal development.

Provide the services of research, prospect identification, proposal design, and solicitation strategies.

Identify, develop and maintain contact with foundation prospects to develop their interest and participation in Duke.

Coordinate new foundation fund raising projects as assigned.

Assume sole responsibility for cultivation and solicitation of all foundation prospects within assigned geographic areas.

Research and write foundation proposals.

Review and edit proposals developed by others.

Work closely with development staff in research, development and writing of foundation proposals to benefit the Capital Campaign for the Arts and Sciences and The Campaign for Duke.

Assist with special foundation fund raising projects as assigned including, not limited to, the Volunteer Center, Presidential Fellowships, Graduate Fellowships and the Career Development Center.

Research foundation prospects for various projects and recommend strategies for prospect solicitation.

Review and assist with reports to foundation donors.

Develop and maintain an appropriate foundation donor reporting system on existing grants.

Serve as assistant director of The Josiah Charles Trent Memorial Foundation, assisting the executive director in managing foundation activities, including coordination and organization of semi-annual board meeting, reviewing and recommending proposals for funding, and monitoring and reporting on grant making activity.

Develop special programs to inform all development staff of University programmatic initiatives and institutional issues.

Develop annual information sessions to acquaint faculty with foundation funding possibilities and the Duke process.

Represent the Development Office before a variety of individuals and groups providing information regarding fund raising activities and University programs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires five years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in fund raising activities.
