Occupational Summary
Direct, coordinate and administer the Masters of Arts in Teaching Program (MAT) to include all professional, technical and administrative aspects of the program.
Work Performed
Develop and implement policy for and daily administration of the MAT program; develop and implement program evaluations; prepare administrative and programmatic assessment reports.
Represent the MAT program in external relationships with the State Department of Public Instruction (SDPI), the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education, local school system administrators, faculty and elected officials, other universities, and community organizations; initiate and coordinate cooperative programs in the schools; publicize the program to local community organizations, foundations and businesses; ensure state and national accreditation requirements are met.
Direct the provision of student services for the program to include admissions, orientation, fellowship awards, student records and career services/job placement counseling; interpret University and SDPI requirements; work with SDPI to resolve programmatic or individual questions, problems and issues; direct all phases of the certification process for graduates; direct all aspects of professional training of students to include selecting/hiring mentors, establishing and communicating program needs and expectations, placing students with mentors, and maintaining liaison between students and mentors.
Direct program curriculum development and modification; identify need for new courses or modifications to existing courses, planning and implementing program changes as needed.
Represent the program to University graduate departments and other offices; pursue the further development or establishment of new collaborative relationships with other academic units to develop new programs and proposals.
Develop, monitor and analyze budgets to include projecting expenditures, revenue and enrollment and determining financial aid, fellowship and scholarship awards; supervise the preparation of financial and operational reports and analyses.
Develop and implement strategies for securing financial support for the program including the preparation of grant proposals; maintain liaison with the offices of University Development, Alumni Affairs and Research Support related to fund raising efforts.
Develop and implement strategies for marketing the program to undergraduate students; supervise the preparation of promotional materials; develop and implement recruitment strategies; conduct recruitment and information meetings; ensure appropriate follow up strategies are identified and carried out.
Interpret departmental policies and procedures, making decisions on specific operating problems and issuing instructions in the name of the program in accordance with procedures and established policies; serve as departmental liaison with other University offices concerning policies and procedures, faculty arrangements, and general program administration.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires analytical communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires six years experience in program administration, continuing education, teaching/instruction or a related setting to acquire skills necessary to direct a master's degree program in teaching.
