Occupational Summary
Plan, coordinate and implement activities involved in the assignment of golf course grounds management as directed by the Administrative Head Superintendent of the Duke University Golf Course.
Work Performed
Coordinate the planning for daily and monthly maintenance crew assignments for designated grounds, coordinate the processing of golf course setup assignments and changes.
Assist in planning/design and implementation of monthly and 90 day schedules as related to the cultural and chemical (weekly and monthly) turf programs as designed by the AHS. Maintain accurate fertilizer and pesticide records and present clear and concise reports (monthly / annually) on all grounds activities as required.
Provide information, advise, and consultation to the AHS and 1st Assistant Superintendent regarding golf course policies and procedures; conduct training sessions for maintenance crew staff as needed. Recommend and implement golf course grounds policies and procedures develop various methods to collect necessary information and ensure efficient assignments of golf course maintenance personnel.
Prepare a variety of statistical reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. Develop and edit the various golf course maintenance bulletins and other materials pertaining to daily assignments and activities by the grounds maintenance crew.
Organize and lead maintenance crew members in areas including safety, procedures, and staff communication.
Maintain liaison with golf course administrators, golf shop professionals, and golf coaches in order to coordinate the practice range and golf course maintenance schedules and achieve program objectives.
Provide and promote transparent communication between maintenance administration and crew members specifically as it relates to the duties and responsibilities of the golf course maintenance crew.
Coordinate and participate in a variety of administrative activities related to supervising, training, and scheduling a maintenance crew of 10-15 employees.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a high school degree. A 2-year degree in turf management is preferred but not required. Non-Turf related bachelor degrees will be considered if accompanied with commensurate management work experience. If the candidate does not have a North Carolina pesticide license it will be expected that, within the six months employment, they will obtain said license.
Experience
Work generally requires four years of experience in golf course maintenance administrative or supervisory position to become familiar with practices and activities involved in the daily conditioning of a golf course operation. This would include the coordination of crew members as appropriate tasks assignment by the AHS.
