Occupational Summary
The School of Nursing's Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations has overall responsibility for planning, developing and directing a comprehensive fund raising program for the School of Nursing. The Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Relations recommends both a short term and long term strategic Development plan by identifying benchmark goals for the organization, and a clear mechanism for achievement of those goals. The position is accountable for achieving the Schools philanthropic fund raising targets.
Work Performed
Creates and implements a comprehensive development plan for fundraising that includes individual, corporate and foundation sources for gift generation, while consistently increasing giving and the School's philanthropic base.
Proposes long and short term institutional development related communication strategies to cultivate positive relationships between the School, its alumni, and donors.
Identifies groups and individuals who are important to the School, and develops and implements means to reach them regularly in an effort to build the greater School community and cultivate relationships to facilitate future donations.
Measures and reports progress towards fundraising goals and provides insight into improving the effectiveness of fundraising activities.
Leads campaign planning and management, including working with the dean to assess overall campaign readiness, feasibility of projected dollars to be raised, and overall campaign plan, including marketing, budgetary needs, donor recognition levels and staffing needs.
Oversee campaign committee, including training of volunteers, meeting agendas, activities, and events.
Provides oversight of, and support to, the Schools two volunteer boards, the Nursing Alumni Council and the Board of Advisors.
Coordinates and leads the activities of these two boards such that they are strategic, and in support of fund raising and School priorities.
Oversees the planning and execution of events for the School.
Provides leadership and manages day to day operations of the development team, clarifying goals and establishing timelines and milestones for accomplishing.
Provide direct supervision of development professionals, including hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules; conduct monthly assessment and review meetings; and conduct formal annual evaluations.
Performs advanced professional tasks: analyzes market research; writes and edits material in a variety of formats, among them reports, proposals, position papers, articles and speeches; chairs committees and leads work group; works one on one to solve problems; builds consensus and creates collaborative.
Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Bachelors degree required. Preference given to candidates with a graduate or professional school degree.
Experience
At least ten years of directly related experience, such as team management, project management, and fund raising, is required. Experience in higher education, alumni relations or development is preferred.
OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCAITON AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Skills
Requires demonstrated skill as an effective communicator, in oral and written forms, leadership skills needed to manage the development office and its team, and manage employees' performances to a high level of accountability.
Demonstrated experience in fund raising.
Successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of the relationship between strategic goals and the initiatives required to accomplish the needed outcomes.
