Occupational Summary
Direct and coordinate Duke University Accounting operations to include Disbursements, Accounting Data, Accounting Records, Payroll, General Accounting Services, Accounting Operations System and Work Order Accounting.
Work Performed
Direct and coordinate the Disbursements, Accounting Data, Accounting Records, Payroll, General Accounting Services, Accounting Operation Systems and Work Order Accounting sections of Accounting Operations to ensure prompt and accurate fulfillment of University financial obligations. Establish policies and procedures for Accounting Operations; interface with all levels of University management and faculty to ensure compliance with established accounting and payroll policies and procedures. Determine fiscal requirements of Accounting Operations and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds.
Plan and schedule work for the group ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.
Prepare reports and analyses, including financial statements and tax reports, setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Plan and conduct conferences with subordinates to ensure compliance with established departmental practices and to keep employees abreast of current changes and standards.
Direct various personnel functions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
