Occupational Summary

Administer and coordinate technical activities, educational programs, tests and determinations related to the operation of specialized laboratories in sleep, epilepsy, evoked potentials and electroencephalography.

Work Performed

Coordinate and supervise the performance of routine and specialized technical procedures in each laboratory to include routine procedures/overnight polysom nogram, multiple sleep latency test, prolonged video/EEG cable telemetry, depth electrode recordings, intraoperative corticograms, saline activations, brainstem auditory evoked potentials, somatosensory evoked potentials, visual evoked potentials, intraoperative evoked potential monitoring and routine scalp electroencephalography.

Assist in the development and implementation of departmental policy and procedures to solve specific operating problems and improve patient care.

Plan and schedule work for the group to ensure proper distribution of assignments as well as adequate manning, space and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.

Compile and prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.

Assist in the determination of fiscal requirement and preparation of budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditures of budgeted funds.

Maintain liaison with physicians, research personnel and staff to resolve problems, to offer advice concerning technical procedures, techniques and equipment, and to maintain conformance with specific operational standards.

Develop and implement quality assurance programs relating to calibration and maintenance of equipment.

Supervise and coordinate the patient billing activities.

Recommend various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, transfers and vacation schedules.

Coordinate and participate in training programs in clinical neurophysiology.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires a bachelor's degree in biology, physiology, psychology or related scientific field.

Experience

Work requires four years of clinical neurophysiologic technical experience to gain expertise in the principles, theories, procedures and equipment involved in electroencephalography, evoked potential, polysomnography and epilepsy monitoring. A state license, and registry with, any one of American Board of Registration of EEG Technology, Evoked Potential Technology or Polysomnographic Technology is required for the performance of this function.
