Occupational Summary

Develop programs and strategies to identify, cultivate, and solicit alumni, parents and friends of the University for significant gifts to fund institutional priorities.

Work Performed

Identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts prospects; recommend and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies of individual prospects, working with department heads, faculty and volunteers as appropriate; meet with prospects and volunteers, traveling as necessary.

Assist administrators in the recognition and prioritization of institutional and departmental funding needs; keep abreast of institutional and departmental priorities, programs, personalities and events, and use this information to further development efforts.

Maintain liaison between the central development office and the departmental community; respond to research requests and provide information on donors and prospects to develop interest and encourage involvement.

Maintain knowledge of current tax laws, investments and planned giving opportunities; use knowledge in prospect cultivation and solicitation as appropriate.

Cultivate and present proposals to corporate and foundation prospects as requested.

Write or edit proposals and other materials appropriate to program assignment; assist with publicity arrangements on important gifts, programs, accomplishments or events.

Enlist and work with volunteers and volunteer organizations; suggest changes to strengthen membership of existing volunteer boards or organizations.

Develop, evaluate and refine plans and timetables for program assignments; determine feasibility and supervise planning of cultivation events or programs.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training

Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.

Experience

Work requires seven years experience in alumni affairs, public relations, fund raising, sales and promotions, marketing or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to administer, coordinate and/or participate in general fund raising activities and proposal development. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
