Occupational Summary
Plan, coordinate and implement specific assigned fund raising activities to include identifying, cultivating, soliciting and tracking fund raising prospects and assisting in preparation of proposals consistent with the approved fund raising goals of Duke University Libraries.
Work Performed
Plan, coordinate and implement specific assigned fund raising activities for Duke University Libraries to include identifying, cultivating, soliciting and tracking gifts from individuals; establish and maintain contact with prospects to develop their interest and participation in major Library fund raising projects and to provide information concerning the utilization of gifts.
Plan and implement strategies to be utilized in the solicitation of funds from individuals based on established fund raising objectives.
Write or assist in drafting fund raising proposals and related written materials such as newsletters, brochures, pamphlets and materials for Library Advisory Board and individual donor groups as necessary; assist with publicity arrangements on important gifts, programs, accomplishments or events. Maintain liaison with the Office of University Development to coordinate fund raising activities to include policies, strategies, prospect clearance and donor recognition.
Travel to meet with prospects and volunteers for purposes to include cultivating interests, obtaining contributions, providing information on projects of interest to donors, entertaining, and completing contracts.
Represent the Library and Duke University before a variety of individuals and groups, providing information concerning fund raising activities and programs.
Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
Assist Director in determining fiscal requirements for development activities and prepare budgetary recommendations; monitor, verify and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds. Enlist the assistance of support staff as required in researching of potential prospects and preparing and implementing proposals.
Coordinate and participate in special projects as assigned. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Required Qualifications at this Level
Education/Training
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires three years of experience in alumni affairs, fund raising, public relations, sales and promotions, marketing, student activities or a related field in order to acquire skills necessary to coordinate and/or participate in general fund raising activities and proposal development. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
